THE BEATLES... PEOPLE THAT CHANGED THE WORLD.
There are many revolutionary people that I admire, from religious people that fought for human rights like Martin Luther king Jr. to activists like Gandhi, and philosophers like Emile Durkheim. Scientist like Peter Higgs, that discovered the Higgs boson particle, also referred as the God particle (particle that creates mass). All of these people have changed the world in a way that nobody at that time could have imagined, and they all made a big impact in the world. But sometimes it’s not only one person that can make an impact like Martin Luther King Jr. or Gandhi, sometimes it can be a group of people like a band of music or something, like the Beatles.
In the summer of 1957 Paul McCartney and John Lennon meet. McCartney was invited to join John Lennon’s band “The Quarry Man” after he auditioned. Two years later the band broke up in the early 1959. Like most bands, The Beatles successes was not immediate, in the year of 1960 is when they start to become the Beatles. In the beginning the band consisted of five teenage boys, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best (drummer) and Stuart Sutcliffe. The band had an identity crisis, meaning they changed their name more than once, from the “Silver Beetles”, “Long John and the Beatles”, to ”The Beet Brothers”, till finally going with The Beatles. Sutcliffe left the band after 18 months to study. And then they were four. When they make their first trip to Hamburg, Germany, although it was not successful, the second trip was. The Beatles returned to Liverpool In June of 1961 and more people would go to see them perform. Even though more people would go see them and they would actually have and audience, the band was refused by well known recording companies. It was Parlophone records (a subsidiary of EMI) that signed The Beatles. In 1962 Pete Best was replaced by Ringo Starr because the producer didn’t like Pete Best and also because Pete was not in the best terms with the other guys. “Love me do” was their first single and was released in September of 1962, eventually reaching # 17 in the UK, it would be almost two years until the song was released and became the #1 hit in the US. In August of 1965 the Beatles gave a concert in the New York’s Shea Stadium, and more than 55 thousand people attended that concert, at that time that is the most people ever to attend a single concert. Two months later, the fab four became member of the British Empire. Usually this honor is given to military and government official and its one of the highest honors to be given in the UK. The band released a couple of more albums, and made a movie called “Help!” In 1966 John Lennon commented in an interview that “the Beatles are more popular than Jesus”. 1969 was a difficult time for the Beatles. In September of that year John Lennon decided to leave the band. The band’s break up was announced in April 1970 a month before their final album “Let It Be” was released, and the band known as the Beatles officially came to an end. The Beatles, the best Rock n’ Roll band in its time, and safe to say ever to exist. And their influence will continue as each generation listen to the music that that impacted the world and changed it.
I believe that music it’s a big part of life, without music I think people would be really unhappy, music moves us and it influences us, music could be powerful if we are open to it. The Beatles were a big impact in the world, and they have influenced people in ways never dreamed of. They were the first to wear long hair the mop-long hair cut as people would put it, at first the youth in America would laugh at it but later they would cut their hair just like the Beatles. And its goes the same with their clothes, they changed the way people dressed. But I believe that their influence is deeper than that. The Beatles were all about love and peace. Their constant preaching about peace and love may have helped to bring to an end the Vietnam War. Even though the Beatles were all about love and peace they weren’t perfect, some songs were about drugs like Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds that stands for LSD, and some people, took that the wrong way. But the important thing is that people were reacting, it didn’t matter if it’s in the right or wrong way, but the fact is that the people were reacting, to the Beatles. And they still are.
When I was out shopping for school stuff at Wall Mart, I wanted to buy my notebooks of the Beatles theme, and when I got to the section where the notebook are I hear a 12 year old kid, telling his father, “oh dad look, the Beatles!!” and I hear him singing one of the Beatles songs, “Hey Jude” (I think it was), I was amazed. Because even till this day, the young people (even kids of every generation listen to the Beatles, even if it’s the minority of Puerto Rico or the majority of the USA that listen to the fab four, but the Beatles are still alive, because of the impact and influence they had on our parent generations all over the world.
I grew up listening to 60’s and 70’s music, because my parents never really grew out of the 60 and 70 phase. Till this day my mom and my dad still listen to the old bands they had back in their old days. Which makes me wonder, will I be like that when I get older? Listening to the same music I listen now. Thanks to my parents I came to know about the Beatles and other awesome bands that came out in this generation. Like The Who, the Rolling Stones, among others. As I said before I grew up listening to the Beatles, but it wasn’t till I saw a musical called “Across the Universe” that really made me really listen to them. I should say that because of that movie I really started listening to the lyrics of the Beatles’ music. And it was because of them that I stared listening to the lyrics of every song I hear.
Sadly this generation does not have a band like the Beatles but we do have some bands that are pretty good. One of the many bands that I like is called The Fray, this band is not as famous as the Beatles or has made an impact as big as theirs, but they did made a pretty big impact in my life. There is a song called “How to Save a Life” by the Fray, and it’s safe to say that this song did save my life during a pretty rough time in my life, so whenever I feel like I can’t keep going on with my life I just listen to this song and remember that life is not that bad.

My fisrt fight with the BFF...
When you spend way too much time with one person, you start to get twitchy around that person. I mean twitchy in the sense that everything that person does bothers you. So I learned the hard way that people need space, or you will start getting mad at the stupidest things. But the thing is that at that time does not seem so stupid when you get mad. So you say stupid things and hurt that persons feeling, and regret it later. But first I have to say that I was the one being the stupidest one, my best friend Kaili was stupid too, but I won the award of stupid of the year.
I met Kaili at elementary school, "La Pachin", first we hated each other because I used to tease her about a boy she liked. I made her cry once, and I felt bad. I never liked to make people cry, so I said I was sorry, she never believed me. But after I stopped teasing her so much, we became friends, best friends at that in 6th grade. So we were inseparable, me and her. She understood my craziness and my shyness, she knew where I came from, and she helped me better my English, she was from Connecticut, so she knew English pretty well.
We helped each other at school, we had sleep over’s every weekend, things were fun and awesome, for a while, you see some people need space. After middle school started, Kaili started to snap at me, either because I took her makeup, or because, I took some of her Pepsi. I usually kept it cool and kept my mouth shut. Until one day, that I snapped back.
We were in school, and cutting a class, it was the second semester, so we already knew people and people know us, unfortunately. Kaili and me were sitting under a tree, and talking normally but I was a little mad, because I was having a bad day, the boy I liked, was ignoring me, and my boyfriend found out that I liked somebody else, drama all over, and it was about to get worst. Because that day I couldn't keep my mouth shut and when Kaili is blabbing and I here "You know you should train you dogs better, they are stupid...." it was like a slap in the face, and I couldn't just, keep standing her snapping at me, so I came up with the lamest come back ever, " yeah we'll your dog is small" and she just laughs at what I said, which I don't blame her now, it was a stupid comeback, but at that time I was so mad that I didn't care that it was a lame come back. I was mad and I was being laughed at.
After she stopped laughing I said “you know you are just mad because, Roland likes me and not you and he will never like you! Is that why you are snapping at me all the time?" and that right there was hitting below the belt. She was always forever in love with our other friend Roland. And I used to tease her about it in elementary school, and when we became friends I said I was never going to mention it again. After I said that she grew furious at me and even forgot how to speak Spanish, and started to bicker and yell at me in English. I don't remember much what she said in the fight. But I know she said. "How could you?" “I would have never said something like that to you” I was still mad so I didn't really felt bad when she said that. But later it got to me, after I started to think what I said and stuff.
So after a teacher comes to see what's going on, because me and Kaili are yelling at each other, and the whole school was aware of our little disagreement, we decide to go to class after all. I and Kaili didn't fix thing that day, but the next. I remember when all of our friends came up to me and they were like. "Oh my God, are you and Kaili fighting, you can't fight, you guys are best friends, our inspiration." So that day on recess , my friends have the crazy idea to have an intervention, between me and Kaili, which it was unnecessary, because we would have fix things sooner or later , but it was nice to have friends like that. At the end I and Kaili patched things up, and we made, in the school magazine at the end of the year, the most dramatic couple. It was fun that year but not without fights.
Kaili and I are still best friends till this day; we have been through thick water and worst and always manage to keep up float because we learn from our past mistakes. Honestly I don’t know what I would have done if I didn’t have Kaili with me in middle school and in high school. Now Kaili lives in the states, we don’t talk as much as we wanted to, she works, and I have my studies. But when we talk it’s like no time passes by. Hopefully I’m going to see Kaili soon this Christmas and things are going to be not like old times but even better.
